Washington City Paper, July 16, 2008

William Dranginis knows what you’re thinking, so maybe it’s best to get a few things straight right from the start. He’s not crazy, delusional, some lunatic on the fringe. For the most part, he’s your average suburban family man. Lives on a quiet street in Manassas. Has a great wife and two daughters; just became a grandfather. Has a good job designing surveillance equipment for the Windermere Group, an Annapolis-based technology firm that does contract work for the government.
He can’t help that he saw Bigfoot in the woods near Culpeper, Va., on March 11, 1995. Two witnesses were with him, both FBI agents. It’s not like he imagined the incident. In the 13 years since, he has spent more than $50,000 trying to prove Bigfoot exists. He has created sophisticated surveillance systems—wait till you hear about his new Eye Gotcha system!—and even designed a tricked-out research van with parabolic microphones and thermal and night-vision cameras. So he’s not exactly half-assing this quest.

I have been doing research on a creature known as Sasquatch or Bigfoot since August 1984. When I first started my research, my belief was that what we really needed to prove that such a creature exists is good video footage of one of these creatures doing something almost or totally humanly impossible.
I started doing research in the area the film was shot in May of 1989. Reports of several footprints measuring 17½ inches in length had been coming in to me as well as sighting reports. I decided to go and do some research in the area, such as talking to the alleged witnesses, hiking the woods to see if I could find anything out of the ordinary. I would sit in the woods in the middle of the night, hoping one of these creatures would come in close enough to get a glimpse of it, or hear some unusual noises come out of the woods.
Sean Forker
Sean Forker (born August 29, 1985) is the Founder of Anomalis Entertainment, Independent Bigfoot Researcher, and Former Chairman of the American Bigfoot Society. He is a resident of Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
Bigfoot
Sean began his research at the very young age of 10, when his father gave him a copy of the book ''Sasquatch The Apes Among Us'' by John Green. He began to assimilate everything he could on the subject. He researched local woods during his teen years, what he considers anecdotally, fieldwork. Sean did not begin serious field work until 2005, when he became an Investigator for the Pennsylvania Bigfoot Society. This is where he would meet the man he considers his mentor, Eric H. Altman, Director of that organization.
Sean was a quiet researcher, who tended to stay out of the politics of the Bigfoot research community. This changed in February 2006. While listening to “The 'X' Zone Radio Show w/ Rob McConnell”, world renowned Bigfoot researcher; also at the time an alleged hoaxer, Tom Biscardi, toted about pictures he claimed to have received photos that were “PROOF POSITIVE” in the existence of Bigfoot.
Upon viewing these pictures, Sean knew the source of these photos. Together with fellow researcher Pat Knetzer, they put an end to the tall tale being dealt to the public. After weighing the new evidence, a grateful Rob McConnell asked them to appear on his show.
A new partnership was formed when Sean began to do a monthly segment, lasting until November 2006, called “The Sightings of Sasquatch/ Bigfoot”. Over the course of several months, Rob and Sean discussed recent Sasquatch activity, reported encounters old and new, and addressed hoaxing and its repercussions. This segment partially culminated to the “Is It Real” Debate regarding the infamous 1967 Filming of a Bigfoot by
Roger Patterson/ Bob Gimlin. As the subject matter began to lose interest with the public, Sean and Rob mutually decided to do shows on Bigfoot less often, and the segment is now on hiatus.
The American Bigfoot Society
During the course of 2005, Sean founded the American Bigfoot Society. The group was comprised of several researchers from different states, all sharing common goals and frustrations. As the group grew in size, and with the aforementioned appearances on 'The X Zone”, he also became the 'Voice of the American Bigfoot Society'. The group has not wavered in its principal goal of the free share of information, something Sean is most proud of.
In November 2006, Sean stepped down as Director, and reorganization began. It was during this time that Sean nominated Melissa Hovey as the first president of the society. She was elected with an overwhelming majority. She had previously served as Public Relations Director of the group throughout 2005/6 and as Principal Advisor to Sean during his tenure as Director. Today, the role is somewhat reversed, as Sean was appointed as Chairman of the Governing body for the organization (for life), and is a principal advisor to the president. The American Bigfoot Society closed its doors in May of 2008.
A New Approach
This reorganization was due in part to Sean's need to get back to basics with research, and adopted the current movement of skeptical analysis. His belief is that the current evidence is not enough to prove the existence of these creatures. His belief now is that new evidence must be found, collected, archived, and recorded properly, using current scientific and forensic methods. He still however maintains a strict, no kill policy.
The Sasquatch Experience
With the experience gathered from “The 'X' Zone”, and the need to get decent information out to the public, Sean and fellow researcher Henry May created “The Sasquatch Experience”. The show is currently hosted by Sean Forker, Melissa Hovey, and James Baker.
The show airs every Sunday at 9pm ET. The show premiered on October 8th, 2006. Guests have included Dr. Jeffrey Meldrum; Associate Professor of Anthropology at Idaho State University and author of Sasquatch: Legend Meets Science, and John Green; the grandfather of Sasquatch Research, author of Sasquatch the Apes among Us. The special two hour show with John Green was the ultimate fulfillment of a dream for Sean, as it was Green who was his inspiration to get involved with this research.
The show continues today in its Fifth Second season.

Erik Beckjord, a paranormal investigator who tried to share his theories at his UFO, Bigfoot and Loch Ness Monster Museum in North Beach, has died at age 69.
Mr. Beckjord, who had prostate cancer, died June 22 near his home in Lafayette, where he was caretaker of the Crosses of Lafayette, a monument dedicated to the more than 4,000 American troops who have died in the war in Iraq.
According to his Beckjord Blog, he was in charge of updating the sign displaying the total death count at the monument, which includes thousands of small white burial crosses on a hillside overlooking Highway 24 and the Lafayette BART Station.
Jon-Erik Beckjord was born in 1939 in Duluth, Minn. His father was Col. Philip Beckjord, a physician who ran Army field hospitals in Germany during World War II.
Mr. Beckjord grew up overseas and in the Washington area. He came west to attend graduate school at UC Berkeley. Eventually he went to Hollywood, where he was living when the Malibu fires of 1993 tore through his first Bigfoot Museum. According to family friend Molly Hanson, he lost what he claimed were nine huge track castings of the footprints of the elusive Sasquatch and the only known existing hair and blood samples. But the Bigfoot Museum survived.
Mr. Beckjord surfaced in San Francisco three years later. He opened his Bigfoot, UFO and Loch Ness Monster Museum on Union Street just west of Washington Square on Halloween in 1996. An additional area of expertise was crop circles, which he documented on expeditions to the United Kingdom.
"I'm not going to waste a whole lot of time convincing the skeptics," he told a reporter a few days before opening, "because the skeptics are not going to pay even a dollar to get in here."
The nonskeptics were expected to pay $3 ($2 for children) to come in and see his science fair-style displays, but the main attraction was the oversize museum founder and curator, who sat at a desk willing to discuss at length any sightings or other documentation.
He trusted hunches and distrusted the government. One of his hunches was that clues to solve the Nicole Simpson murder were buried in wet leaves at the scene. Under cover of night, Mr. Beckjord said, he went to the scene with a psychic to investigate. The evidence he collected was in a special "O.J. Room" at the museum.
"A lot of this weirdness is right under our noses," he said at the time. "We may belong to aliens. We may be experimental animals. But I can't prove it."
As it turned out, the lack of any substantial evidence was a detriment to paid admission at the museum. It didn't last long. He then operated Captain Neon, a repair company for electrical appliances.
Survivors include brothers Ross Beckjord of British Columbia, and Peter Beckjord of Maryland and sister Pam Forbes of Virginia. A private service and burial will be in Duluth in autumn.
